The Scripps Pier in La Jolla, CA is perhaps one of the most photographed piers in Southern California. Maybe that's why I've avoided it for so long. But after spending about an hour there (9:30a-10:30a) I can understand the appeal. What looks like a plain architectural structure from afar is actually a striking visual display of simplicity and minimalism up close. I also realized (after about 20 minutes) that the Scripps Pier in not symmetrical; the top of the pier sticks out from the legs a few feet more on the left side than the right side.
